Host: Hyatt Balke-Want, Dept. I of Internal Medicine, University of Cologne
Mirco Julian Friedrich is a physician-scientist working at the intersection of synthetic immunology, hematology, and computational biology. He is a tenure track group leader at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), where he heads the department of Hematology and Immune Engineering, and practices as a hematologist and oncologist at Heidelberg University Hospital. He studied medicine and completed a PhD in immunology at Heidelberg and Harvard, holds a master's degree in public health and biostatistics from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and was an EMBO postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of CRISPR pioneer Feng Zhang at MIT. His research centers on in vivo T cell engineering, T cell receptor discovery, and mRNA-based immune modulation, and he serves as principal investigator of the first clinical trial of a genome-edited cell therapy conducted in Germany.
Among other honors, Dr. Friedrich was named Forbes 30 Under 30 and has received the MIT McGovern Institute Technology Award, the Kind-Philipp Prize of the German Society for Pediatric Oncology and Hematology (GPOH), the Medical Thesis Award of the German Society for Hematology and Medical Oncology (DGHO), and Young Investigator Awards from the Society for Neuro-Oncology (SNO) and the International Myeloma Society (IMS).
This is a hybrid seminar. If you are unable to attend in person, please register for the online meeting on Zoom.
We look forward to to seeing you there!
