Prof. Hallek was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit by the Mayor of Cologne, Henriette Reker, on October 14, 2024, for his outstanding achievements in medicine, particularly his research on Chronic Lymphatic Leukemia.
He has been working at the University Hospital of Cologne since 2003 and is the founder and head of the German CLL Study Group. Alongside patient care and research, he is also active as a member of several Scientific Advisory Boards (Robert Koch Institute, the Science Council of the German Federal Government) and serves as the Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Medical Association, and since 2023, as the Chairman of the Advisory Council of Experts on Health and Health Care of the German Federal Government.
